Steep Block Landscape Design | The Landscaped Garden

The property owners required a functional steep block landscape design, with elements that complimented the existing home finish – consisting of concrete walls, rustic tones and glass. The Landscaped Garden overcame the daunting 30m steep block to successfully construct this modern Australian Native Landscape garden.

What makes this project special is the amount of earthworks and crew labour required to create all the terraces around the site.

Working on a 30m slope is a challenge, while managing safety and ensuring all works are structurally sound. Careful planning was key for the Landscape Garden team to ensure a top level of safety and structural stability. Piering down to rock for footings, transporting 100’s of tonnes of boulders, as well as fill and drainage materials – were all managed successfully despite limited machine access.

The landscape design was based on a circle of zones, where the inner zones closer to the house and entertaining areas are functional.

As you move out through the landscaping it blends further with the surrounding natural bushland environment. The key was levelling many areas to create usable terraces around the property for entertainment, accommodating the natural slope of the site.
